When is Wrong Right?
I was recently amused when a promising student in my real estate coaching program was de-railed by a bad case of ‘perfectionism. In case you didnt know- this disease falls under the larger category of ‘Excusitis. The students fears of the long list of unknowns, uncertainties and problems ‘likely to occur etc. etc. etc. had him paralyzed (the problems and concerns were ALL manufactured in his mind). Long story story short- He wanted some confidence that things were going to go right.
Well, If you find yourself in this same situation Ill give you the same ‘cure that I gave this student. Lean in real close,Because its a secret so I have to whisper¦Okay, Are you holding the computer real close? Even closer¦Okay, heres theSecret¦
You are going to make mistakes¦thats the secret.
So be confident in this fact. Youre going to make mistakes.BUT, the biggest mistake you CANT afford is to not take action. You gotta DO SOMETHING!!!
I still make mistakes. Do I care?…ABSOLUTELY Yes! But, Im still moving forward. And as Im continuing to take positive actions God continues to open new doors for me and some absolutely AMAZING opportunities.
You know, every year I am wrong probably more times than right. . But wrong is right when youre taking positive actions and truly trying to help others.
Heck, even Al Gore will eventually be right about global warming and the melting of the ice cap and the extinction of polar critters, if he stays around long enough. Same as the axiom of sitting in a street café in
Anyway, I gave up trying to be right most of the time a long, long time ago and you must adopt this exact same philosophy if you want to ever experience real success. Look at the post about Donald Trump. There’s a great example of winning big and loosing big…but ALWAYS taking actions.
Just about the time I think Ive seen every possible way for me to screw up, I encounter a new one. It never ends. Something is always wrong. Often, something serious is wrong. Like what Im dealing with now in spite of enormous preventive efforts, about which I console myself with: imagine how much more screwed up everything would have been if I hadnt worked so hard at preventing disaster.
Dr. Maltz (Psycho-Cybernetics¦an absolutely timeless great book that should be in everybody’s library) taught that there is never a straight line to success. Everyone arrives at each successive, progressive destination via zig-zag paths. And everyone nods and agrees whenever they hear this, but few live it. Everybody wants the ‘Zigs’ that are positive, but most are unwilling to go through the ‘Zags’ of the negatives. Here’s another way to look at it…The logical extension of it is: the sooner you get moving in the wrong direction and get lost, the sooner youll get there. The longer you wait attempting to plot the perfect path, the never youll get there.
People erroneously think that the rich are much smarter aka right about things more than the rest of the population. By and large, they arent.
They just do more than the rest of the population. ( there’s one of the secrets of success, a BIG one.)
Of course, we want to strive to get it right. There are ways to do that, with certain things. For example, as a real estate investor you need to narrow your focus to working in only a few categories and refusing new challenges to soon. That cuts down on the wrong turns. Its also admittedly rather limiting, and ultimately leads to boredom and burn-out. We pick our poisons. But if being right and not being wrong and getting from here to there without bruises is of the utmost importance to you, the only real answer is to stay home and settle for what somebody else kindly puts in the refrigerator.

Comment about actions…. We all make mistakes just part of being human. How rapidly one can make corrections is also an indicator of success.
Rockets that are steered by onboard computers constantly make corrections in direction. They are seldom going perfectly straight to the mark. But rockets and missles are powerful and successful at what they are designed to do. But, noone ever thinks of all the adjustments made enroute to the mark.
Even the best, hightest technologically advanced rocket has to correct itself, it just does it rapidly.
