Smart marketers will use “tie-in” promotions to this major event. There is recognized “celebrity status” and “instant awareness.” It’s easy to incorporate this in to your message. Just like Thad did for this contest!

I think the marketing tactic is “The Game”.
The name is simple and absolute yet it makes a VERY clear point that THIS game is the #1 Game EVERYONE will be watching and always has watched.

Stephen Evanko talks about ‘smart marketers’ and he should know because he is one! He brings up an EXCELLENT point and is 100% correct about me doing a ‘tie-in’ promotion. It is a great way to get tons of free traffic because as you’d imagine there are alot of searches about the game right now. But this is not the SECRET that I am referring to. Stephen…take a peak again and give it another shot. Great to hear from you.

Jim Lambright also brings a very important issue that is critical to marketing success and that is the clarity/clear point issue…combined with the fact that everybody is watching this and has always watched which is a round about way of saying this is what is on everybody’s mind right now…so this makes it ‘easy to enter the conversation that is going on in the prospects’ mind. And although this is a critically important reality in creating cash surging copy…this is not the ‘seldom used’ SECRET I am referring to. So Jim…give it another shot!

Scott is not even close to what I am talking about, but his comment ‘ties in’with Stephen’s thoughts…only a different technique…very effective technique too,but not the ‘seldom used’
SECRET…try again Scott…

Jim Troth’s answer at first seemed difficult for me to understand and then it hit me like a ton of bricks and I like the insight Jim…The exclusivity of this being THE game…THE Rivalry and the way to use that in Marketing is really cool. I like that Jim. Positioning your product…service…etc…as THE one is a way to stretch the price point and the ability to manipulate the supply and demand is a classic play to influence price. And although all of that is absolutely true…it is still not the ‘seldom used’ SECRET I am referring to. But thanks for bringing this point to light. Give it another shot. And NO FAIR if you ask Mr Crow! By the way did you let him know I was giving him grief? I hope so!
Take a peak at the rivalry and give me another answer

Thanks of the remarks, the other thought I have that has surprisenly not been mentioned is the use of emotion. Any rivalry especially OSU vs Michigan is filled with emotion. It is emotion that motivates one to take action. Anytime one can elicit emotion with a prospect they can be certain of getting a response.

Jim,
you are ‘tapping on the door’ of why this SECRET works so well…but you have not yet enunciated what the SECRET is…do you have another shot in you? I think you do!!!

I am not sure what term is used. I will describe it as emotion by way of association.
Similar to raising ones own level of credibility by having their picture taken along side of a famous person. Then using that picture in marketing materials.
Like when Donald Trump raised his credibility by being pictured with Dan Kennedy…..

Jim,
You continue to hit on very good marketing principles. The one you are referreing to is the ‘principle of attachment’, but this is not the marketing principle or SECRET technique that I am talking about. I will give the hint again…I am using it in the Headline.
